Downtown Sacramento is bordered in the north by the American River, in the west by the Sacramento River and in the east and south by I-80 Business Highway.
The rectangular area of downtown Sacramento, about a mile across, has two main focal points: the Capitol and Old town Sacramento.
Designated a historic landmark, Old town Sacramento, a well-preserved 1800's era community located within the modern city, offers unique retail stores, dining, carriage rides, the riverfront, and fun for all ages.
Old Sacramento is also the location of many events and sites including the famous California State Railroad Museum.
K Street, which runs parallel to Capitol Mall Avenue features some of the city's best shopping. Other points of interest include Sutter's Fort State Historic Park, California State Indian Museum and Cocker Art Museum.
